District UIL

This past week I had the opportunity to represent Liberty at the District-Level University , Interscholastic League Academic competition. I participated in the computer science , competitions which consist of two segments: a written test and a hand on coding section. The , written test is composed of 40 questions that test computer science principles about object , oriented programming and java. For every question correct you are awarded 6 points and for , every wrong 2 are deducted. Some concepts the test cover include abstraction, algorithms, time , complexities. The individual competition places are determined by your written score, I placed , 5th overall individually. The second part of the competition is the hands-on section where a , team of up to three students work together to solve 12 different problems with certain expected , input and output. Each problem can test a variety of different technical skills from creating , algorithms to utilizing data structures. Each correctly solved problem is awarded 60 points and , deducted 5 points for every incorrect submission. As a team we were able to solve 6 problems, , we ended up accumulating 839 points as a team, securing us a spot as the first place Computer , Science Team! Overall I had a great experience representing Liberty, as well as competing with , my team to bring back the gold for our school!
